Cold rooms constructed atop movable units for usage as mobile refrigeration systems are known as portable skid mounted refrigerators. The portable units are designed on a sturdy steel base to provide them the essential strength to guarantee mobility and longevity.

The entire unit is constructed to be the size of a container trailer or may be modified to allow for lifting with a crane or big forklift and transportation on flat bed truck location. The same steel basis may also be used to construct cold rooms with partition walls and doors for other purposes. These skid-mounted coldstores are employed in high mobility applications, such as offshore ones.
